Blog Entry: ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH **It's here, da...da...ta...da....mid-June ** And that's a really important and very big day here in our world. The day a ''hunting man'' can go online and check to see if he has both drawn the location he wanted to hunt in for the year, and if he drew what animal he wanted to hunt. And my hubby did. It sure doesn't get much better than that in our backwoodsmans book. So it's now officially started, as of this morning, the conversation has already turned to what rifle to take, what camp spot is best in that area, what gear he will either take or purchase out of his favorite book ''the ole Cabela's catalog'', checking and re-checking a complete inventory list, engrossing map reading for hours on end, yep, it's allot of prep work but it's also country folks idea of heaven here on earth. It's almost hunting season. So soon my spare bedroom will once again begin to look like a used Army surplus store as it does every year. And all gear to be taken to the wilderness camp will be checked, double checked, cleaned, repacked and stacked neatly in a corner. And as always, planned very carefully. Because as far out in the high country as we set up camp, it's far better and safer ''to have than to want.'' We don't eat much of the Deer or Elk meat that we get, just a little burger and a little jerky, but the rest of that meat feeds both of our sets of elderly folks for many months to come and that sure stretches their food budgets. We take great personal pride in providing that meat for them too, as well as endless veggies from our gardens and we have for the last many years now. It just flat makes us feel good. I absolutely love camp life so it's quite exciting for me to start planning to go too. I don't hunt anymore but I sure enjoy the horses in the high country, the camp cooking and my personal favorite, sleeping out under the stars at night with my buffalo robe. Life will be most excellent September 26th-October 15th. Yeehaw...It's a Rocky Mountain High.
