Subject: Reinforcement And Punishment
Content: Positive reinforcement is rewarding an animal for good behavior. This reward can be a tasty treat and or praise. It is important that the positive reinforcement takes place within 20 seconds after the desired behavior occurs. Negative reinforcement is an unpleasant occurrence used to create a desired behavior. This will result in the animal seeking pleasant inforcements instead of negative. Punishment is an unpleasant occurrence used to eliminate an undesirable behavior. This does not mean you need to beat your dog because it performed an undesirable behavior. Punishment must be applied immediately every time the undesired behavior occurs with the appropriate intensity. Remember, the pet should not connect the owner to the punishment.
