Subject: Cool Summer get aways!
Content: Most of you at Tackwagon know that I live in Phoenix Arizona.  Phoenix is a great place to be if you have horses for 10 months out of the year.  Locals here call it heaven!  On the other side of the coin, the remaining months are hell!  With our first month of heck over, we find ourselves in the middle of our heck season.  Today's high temp will be 115 or so degrees.  Our low,...90! With conditions like these, motivating yourself to ride can be challenging or even dangerous.  You either ride very early (dark o'clock) in the morning or in the evening when the sun goes down. Or... You find a cool summer get away.  I found myself up in Flagstaff last weekend and the weather was great! 75 degrees, some areas of misty rain, Tall pines, grassy meadows with wildflowers, and lakes.  The only thing missing on this weekend was my horse!  Instead, I found myself on a quad. We rode on forest roads around the wilderness from Munds Park to Lake Mormon.  All and all we rode about 50 miles or so and it was harder than I thought it would be.(This was my first time driving a quad!)  While I did enjoy the scenery, and meeting new friends, this sport was way dirtier than horseback riding.  And, it went way too fast. Next time I head up north, I think I will bring my horse!  There looked to be great trail rides out in Flagstaff! I wouldn't even mind doing the ride I did over the weekend on my horse.  Then I could take in more of the beautiful scenery than I did zooming along trying to keep up with the folks who invited me!
