Mud Season?
Posted On: 04/04/2008 09:03:27

Even though I can see a 6 foot snowdrift out the north window as I sit here, it is sort of in mud season as well. The road in and out from the highway has melted, turned to mud and dried already. This is a good thing but not all the people around here are as lucky. I have to go and haul some hay this morning and as long as things are a little froze up yet I can pull a trailer into their ranch road. We are still 17 degrees now so maybe I will even be able to make two trips. Off I go.

The thing about this high country is that it does heat up fast or at least it feels that way. At 9,500 ft there isn't much to filter the sun so it feels hotter that the temp. Right now 40 is a heat wave and 50 is downright hot.

I did get 12, 1,800lb bales this morning anyway.

You were lucky enough to miss the "big one" on Vail pass the o ther day. 70 vehicles and one fatal.

Wow! In colorado? Geez. Here in Michigan, we're already getting in to the 40's-50's...!

I don't miss those days Colorancher!  I lived in Taos, New Mexico for 10 years and although we didn't see snow drifts that big in Taos, I do remember how muddy the spring was!  I often felt I needed a mud room for the mud room!

I rode yesterday on a  10 mile loop and enjoyed the spring here in the desert.  Wild flowers are still out and the weather just hit 80 by about 2:00.  I am sure I will be complaining about the heat in a few months, but I love it.  My horse doesn't seem to mind the heat!

Stay warm in your 17 degrees!
