It Figures
Posted On 05/22/2009 21:31:53
So here in Michigan, riding season is just begginning!

And I am happy to say I have a healthy happy pony :]

Unfortunately I will not be riding for another month.

Three Sundays ago, I was riding (doiiih). The bareback pad I usually use was wet (There a leak in the tackroom :( ) so I just went completely bareback. We were in the rounpen, and Maxie was doing very good despite being a little slow.

It was pretty nice that day so I was wearing a tanktop. Me and my boy were happily trotting along when I hear a buzzing in my SHIRT. I look down and what do I see?

A bee. Caught in my shirt.

So I do probably the worst thing I could have done, which is let go of Max and kind of panic. This makes him panic, and I fell. Going down, I was thinking it would be a pretty good fall and I could get right back on.

Not the case.

There is a sharp pain in my right wrist and I look at it, and my immediate thought was, "That ain't right." It was slightly disfigured. Since we were in the roundpen I knew Maxie wasnt going anywhere, so I tried moving my fingers. I could move them, but not my wrist at all.

I called for the lady work with on Sunday mornings, and she runs out and gets Maxie and I.I managed to call my Mom while the lady put maxie away and Mom came and got me.

I spent the rest of the day too drugged up to stand (much less sit up). My wrist was indeed broken, and they had to realign it ("wont hurt at all" my butt!).

So now I'm going to miss the begginning of riding season. :[ My plan now is to use some of my saddle money on my OWN bareback pad, and ask for saddle money again this year for christmas so I can get a better one next year. I don't think I'll be showing my boy this year. :[

P.S. I didn't end up getting stung :] haha.

Dog Attack! (Almost)
Posted On 03/14/2009 09:50:22
Yesterday, I was having a nice bareback trot through the field in the back in the barn property and out of nowhere, Max spooked. I stayed on, and firgured it must have been a tree or something that scared him. I didn't think much of it since I didn't fall, and it wasn't a big spook.

Then we get to the OTHER side of the property. Maxie got a little nervous here, because the idiots next door ALWAYS let their dogs out JUST as we ride by. And it's not just for Max and I either; Once, someone from the barn had their horse ATTACKED by one of those stupid dogs.

So anyway, Maxie got nervous. I took him up a hill though and for whatever reason that seemed to calm him down a bit. But before I realize whats happening, he takes off at a full gallop in the other direction. I stay on for 20 seconds or so, pulling on the reins as hard as I can to slow him down. I have NO idea why he won't stop, but when he does it's so abrupt that I go flying over his head. I mad at at him for only half a second and then...

I see a little black dog.

A dog was CHASING my horse.

I got so mad, I started walking up and down the fence with Max to see how that stupid dog got on to our property anyway. I find a huge gap in the fence, and take Maxie right through it. I walk close to the house, and then realize I can't take Max up there because ... Well it would be difficult. I go back to the barn property and then get back on him so he doesn't think I'm too scared.

I ride up and tell one of the barn ladies what happened. She says she will talk to them, so I don't have to. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to let me do that anyway, because I don't know if I could hold back how angry I was.

So my question to you all is, are there any laws saying that dog can't be on that property while people are riding? Because if there are, I'm calling the cops next time that awful little thing chases my horse.

Guess who the Lead mare is now!
Posted On 03/06/2009 22:36:22
Of course, I was the lead mare is pasrute two long before last night! But last night I made sure all the other horses knew it.

I took the three pans of grain outside: One for Duke(the large chestnut), one for Fancy(a small black mare), and one for my boy, the infamous Maxie.

I get a low repectful rumble from my boy, or Duke. I'm not really sure. So I go in to the pasture and instantly am crowded by three fuzzy, greedy faces. Usually I can rush past them but last night I didn't feel like it. So I start gnashing my teeth like a retard, trying to make the horses think I'll bite them.

Fancy and Duke, being pretty smart ponies, back off. But my boy, being sweet but dumb, thinks I won't do it.

But of course, being the dumbest pony out there, I did.

And he freaked! Well not literally, but he acted all offended and was like, "Fine, I don't need your stupid grain!" After that he was more repectful to me all night. He is usually but last night was really good :D haha.

My first experience with colic.
Posted On 02/15/2009 08:39:40
Last night, the barn manager where Max is kept called my Dad. I figured I was in trouble for something, because everyone's always in trouble according to her.

I overhear her say something about a shot though. And instantly become worried.

My Dad gives me the phone and without saying hi, I ask if Max is okay (so much for manners when your horse is in trouble!). The manager says he is getting a little colicy, and that she was going to give him a shot of banamine (or whatever it is) once we got there.

She gave him the shot, and I walked him around the property for about 45 minutes. But within 15 minutes he was already trying some grass.

I was cold, and I'm sure Max didn't like the little, TINY bit of excerisize, but despite all the pain he was in he was very cooperative for us last night. He only shook his head a little (maybe in surpruise) when the manager gave him his shot. :)

Bareback!
Posted On 12/21/2008 19:07:01
Since my saddle doesnt fit Maxie and I have been riding bareback lately... Talk about feeling at one with your horse! I never actually came off, ALMOST did a couple times, but there were moments when it really was like Max and I were just moving together. We're really getting the trot down so I'm not nearly coming off! It's awesome.

He's a good boy for me now :) I know I've already told y'all that but I'm very pround of him. It's weird for me to look at those old pictures of us, and think, "That insane little equine in the pictures is my horse... The same one I have today." Because he really seemed crazy! But he's a sweetie now. He just stands there when I'm standing with him, and some times still tries to eat my shoes. xD

lately...
Posted On 11/15/2008 17:38:50
Well I'm sure you're all sick of hearing about Max and I by now, so after this I'll try to only give really important updates. :) But I think this one counts as important.

Lately, Max and I have been great. Better than ever, really. And I'm not even worried about jinxing it, because if Max does decide he's boss just because I typed that, then I'll show him!

But it seems he doesn't mind anymore. If I tell him I'm boss, I am. If I tell him to go from a walk to a gallop, he does it. And he'll work his butt off until he really just can't anymore if that's what I ask him to do. And he's happy to do it.

Since we "clicked", everything is better. He listens to me more, and even if I get mad at him for anything we're cool again in just a few minutes.

Are horses not totally the best?

2008 Nat'l Quarter Horse Congress
Posted On 10/26/2008 20:12:00
Anyone else go to the National Quarter Horse Congress over the weekend? :) I went with my cousin. We watched lots of Hunter classes and pole bending... There were some kid that hardly looked like they were even 5 years old! But the pole beding was pretty cool.

There was tons of vendors, too. I got a new show bow thingy, a crop, a head warming thingy, and a vest that has a horse head on it and says "Congress". :)

And my cousin even got a new saddle! It's sweeeet. We looked at Western saddles too (even though neither of us rides Western) and we saw one for $11000. We were so freaked that we both had our pictures taken with it xD

Does any one have any good reviews for Pessoas Gen X saddle, too? I'm thinking about getting one but I don't know... :)

going rilly rilly fast
Posted On 10/15/2008 07:24:52
Well yesterday night, I went out to see Maxie, because I hadn't in a while. (I left all my stuff at my riding insteructors place :( )

Of the other girls who works there {I do too} was out, and said if Max and I wanted to wait just a few minutes she could get the "community horse" (her pony isnt broke yet) and we could go riding.

So we just walked around the field trails for while, but then Max started getting too far behind Duke (The community horse :)) so I trotted back up to them. The girl asked me if I wanted to trot for a while, and I said I didn't care, but that I should probably be getting back soon since it was getting a litte dark.

So, we got on the straight trail that led back to the barn. The girl asked me if I wanted to trot, and I said sure. Max, having the crazily quick trot that he does, was past Duke in just a few seconds. Since I figured the girl on DUke wouldn't mind, I cantered Max soon after. Since she didn't mind, I sat up and forward a little, and I'm not sure why. But I sure didn't regret it! Max and I galloped most of the way back to his pasture (we went to the pasture because I know it's not good to run home :)) I was sooooo pround of him.

I think Max and I may have finnally clicked.... I was sure that when I galloped him he'd take off sideways but I kept thinking, "Stay straight boy... We're almost there." And he did! :)
